MAIL aims to boost agriculture with new strategy

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock launched the ‘Map to Way for Agriculture’ here on Tuesday.

Hamdullah Hamdard, deputy minister for the MAIL, said on the occasion this strategy has five parts aimed at supporting farmers from fields all the way to marketing. He added different solutions have been proposed to the impediments in the field of agriculture as well as promoting the yield.

The MAIL officials vowed the new strategy would help create jobs as well. The deputy minister said special attention has been paid to ensure food safety. He mentioned up to $ 1.2 billion have been invested in the agriculture of wheat alone.

Hamdard said the annual yield of grapes, pistachio and pomegranate is worth $ 392 million, and in line with the ‘Map to Way for Agriculture’ it would be further increased. The deputy minister said the livestock sector is currently worth $ 1.5 billion per year, but it would further be improved.

It was mentioned that the yields of pine nuts and saffron have also seen significant increase this year.;

According to Akbar Rustami, MAIL spokesman, the country exported 600 tons of pine nuts to China in one month alone via the air corridor.
