KABUL (SW) – The first-ever DNA testing center was established here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Ferozuddin Feroz, minister for public health, said this would end reliance on sending DNA samples to Canada that used to take months. He added this center would prove handy in proving genetic identity of individuals among other benefits in the health sector.
Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said on the occasion that the newly inaugurated center would also help with detection in crimes and delivery of justice.
Health officials said the DNA testing abroad was costing the government a lot, and the establishment of this center would bring those costs down.
Afghanistan was among a few countries of the world that lacked such a center.
