MAIDAN CITY (SW): The Ministry of Information and Culture is planning to equip the central Maidan Wardak province with a state of the art public library within a year that would cost some $ 2.7 million.
This was stated by Abdul Bari Jahani, the Minister for Information and Culture during his visit to the province on Thursday.
During his meeting with the local intellectuals, the Minister said the proposed library would have over 30 thousand books on subjects ranging from religion, art, science and other subject of general interest.
The minister dubbed this project as a major step forward in promoting literacy and knowledge in the province.
Awrang Mukhtar, the provincial director for Information and Culture, while thanking the MoIC, said on the occasion that efforts would be made to make the content of this enriching library available for the residents of far away districts as well.
Hayatullah Hayat, the provincial governor deemed the project one of the basic needs for the people. He highlighted the issues faced by local publishers and media outlets due to lack of resources and funds. Hayat urged the donor community and the MoIC to pay attention in this regard.
It is worth noticing that a huge public library was built in the Maidan City but a major suicide car bombing destroyed it completely.
