KABUL (SW) – Representatives of Maidan Wardak province have warned to boycott the forthcoming presidential polls if night raids by the security forces are not stopped here.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Akhtar Mohammad Tahiri, chairman for the provincial council, blamed the government for being careless in connection with these night raids that have claimed multiple civilian lives. He said most of these raids are conducted on civilians’ homes causing casualties and damage to property.
Representatives of the province also warned to block the key Kabul – Kandahar highway if the night raids are not stopped.
However, Fawad Amaan, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, has clarified that the Taliban are responsible for more than 90 per cent of civilian casualties. He said the security forces are extra cautious in ensuring no civilians are harmed in the operations against the insurgents. He said the security operations are launched to ensure the lives and property of civilians are protected form the terrorists.
This comes as a latest air raid by foreign troops killed nine people in Logar province.
