Maidan Wardak residents protest against discrimination

08/08/2018

MAIDAN CITY (SW) – Thousands of protesters on Wednesday took to the streets in Maidan city over the government’s alleged discrimination against them.

Protesters from Maidan Wardak province’s center Maidan city, Jalrez and Narkh districts said they have always supported the government, but in return they have not been given their fair share in public jobs and other areas.

The protesters kept the Kabul – Kandahar highway blocked for hours.

Two such protesters, Ahmad Shah and Eshanullah Hotak, said the government should establish a public university here.  They also called for incorporating full name of the province in the identity cards.

Sharifullah Hotak, member of the provincial council, blamed officials in different public offices for not writing full name of the province in official documents, hence sparking differences among the residents.

The provincial officials promised to address the concerns of the protesters.
