KABUL (SW): Mahmood Matin, a young bodybuilder from western Farah province was crowned as “Mr. Afghanistan” following a strong competition inside the complex of Afghanistan International Olympic stadium on Thursday (04 June).

The competitions were organized by the Afghanistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ABFF), which was established in 1959 in line with the strong enthusiasm for the sport in the country. For three days- strong men who qualified for the mega event- displayed their muscle in front of the judges to bag enough points.

This was the 10th title ABFF has managed to organize that was established to improve the fitness of Afghans and increase participation in bodybuilding.

Although bodybuilding was allowed under Taliban rule in the country, men were required to wear long trousers rather than skin-tight underpants. The contest now resembles any other Western event, although facilities for the competitors are somewhat basic.

Some 650 bodybuilders from across the country made it to the final round. ABFF officials told SW that the federation has representation in 28 out of 34 provinces and the players were selected in a systematic manner of fair competition.

Last year, the title was won by Shukrullah from southern Helmand province.
