LASHKARGAH (SW): Documents seen by Salam Watandar indicates the provincial Director for Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (LSAMD) department has fabricated some 200 fake identity cards aimed at illegally withdrawing funds earmarked for the deserving people.
The documents have been disclosed by an investigative unit by the Ministry of Interior that indicates millions of afghanis have been looted by this way. Abdul Zahir, an investigator at the MoI told four LSAMD employees have been taken into custody blamed for committing the fraud for the past four years.
He said the Director of this department too was involved in the scam.
This comes at a time when a number of deserving families have been denied their right of compensation for years. Nisar Ahmad and Bas Bibi are one of them. They told that despite providing required documents to the concerned department since years they have not been paid a single penny.
Mohammad Nadir Watanwal, Director LSAMD however, denied the claims. He claimed corruption has been eradicated from this department and things were running with transparency. Rejecting the allegations leveled against him, Watanwal asserted that the fact finding commission would soon visit the province and make things clear.
The Director for LSAMD said more than 7000 people deserving compensation earmarked for the martyrs and disabled are registered with them and half of them have been given their due right.
Last month, Nasrin Oryakhail, Minister for Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled claimed some 50, 000 fake LSAMD cards have been distributed across the country that led to the loss of millions of afghanis every month.
According to the MoLSAMD, some 6.7 percent of the population comprised of disable persons.
