JALALABAD (SW): Logar beat Baghlan with four wickets on Tuesday to become the National Under-16 Cricket Champion for the first time.
The 50-Over match was played at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Stadium in Jalalabad city. According to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), this is the first time for Logar to lift a national championship title.
Batting first, Baghlan lost top three wickets in the early stages of the game without any runs on the board. The whole team was reduced to 83 runs in the 30th over with Mohammad Khan (30 runs) as top scorer. No other player from Baghlan entered the double digit. Logar managed to ahieve the target in the 21 overs, thanks to the steady inning of 28 runs by Abdullah.
These two finalists beat Nangarhar and Paktika provinces to make it to the finals. A total of 16 U-16 teams from across the country participated in this tournament that was played in Jalalabad and Khost cities. The ACB said such tournaments help nurture young talents for the national squad.
