MAIMANA (SW): Security officials in northern Faryaab province said that local police linked to Fathullah Qaisari, a member of Wolesi Jirga (lower house), have handed over four villages to the militants in return for money.

Speaking to Salam Watandar, Nizamuddin Qaisari, the police chief in Qaisar district, said that a group of local police personnel loyal to Fathullah Qaisari, have handed over Tangi Borghon, Aqmis, Qarae and Zafaran districts to the Taliban insurgents in return for money.

The police chief stated that they have also handed over 2 tanks and 5 police vehicles to the Taliban.

Fathullah Qaisar, on the other hand, discarded the police chief’s statement as baseless.

He said that there is no local police personnel affiliated to him in the district and even if there were local police officers linked to him in the district, they would hand over their guns and equipment to the government.

He added that the police chief’s stance against him is based on personal rivalry. He added that the police chief has illegally been running the police station in the district.

Fathullah Qaisari stated that as many as 360 villages are under the militant’s full control in the province.

The police chief on the other hand stated that the Taliban insurgents from Ghor, Badghis and other districts in Faryab have poured into Qaisar district in a bid to capture it.

He added that fighting between security forces and the militants is underway in Zafaran and Arkik districts in the province.
