SAR-I-PUL (SW) – A local outlawed armed militia commander in Sar-i-Pul, Mohammad Anwar, also known as Tambal, has begun rampant excavation of historic relics here.
Addul Qadir Ashna, provincial governor, told Salam Watandar this commander of the illegal armed militia began the illicit excavation of artefacts following the departure of former militia commander, Mehdi Mujahed, from the area.
The governor said based on the reports of the local elders and provincial council members, he has directed the security forces to stop this illegal drive in Sar-i-Pul.
As per the information provided by Syed Asadullah Danish, deputy chairman of the provincial council, the outlawed armed commander is stealing the historic relics from a fortress named ‘Naurozi’ in the Balkhab district of the province. He lamented lack of government attention has led to the growth of illegal armed gangs in Sar-i-Pul.
We wished to have the views of the accused, Mohammad Anwar, but poor telecommunications in Balkhab district made it impossible.
