KABUL (SW) – A number of analysts have dubbed the resent shuffle in the cabinet and other appointments of ambassadors and advisers by the President as part of electoral campaign.

Subhan Misbah, an analyst on legal affairs, told Salam Watandar that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s tenure came to an end on 1 of Jawza (22 May). He added continuation of term beyond this date and corresponding appointments have no justification in light of the Constitution. He cautioned such moves can harm the state structure, and the President should refrain from making such moves.

This is in the backdrop of the Arg (Presidency) repeatedly asserting that President Ghani is on his post in line with the Constitution and the clarification presented by the Supreme Court in this connection hence the actions maneuvers by the President are legal and justified.

The Supreme Court has allowed the President to stay until fresh polls for the new president are held.

Meanwhile, Kabul University professor, Shah Baz, has also defended the continuation of President Ghani’s tenure and corresponding decisions by him. He said the President is entitled to this authority by the Constitution. He stressed the latest changes in the cabinet and other appointments are aimed at good governance, and have nothing to do with the elections.

However, these changes have been criticized by a number of politicians including Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah of the National Unity Government.
