Last moment escape from human traffickers

20/05/2019

KABUL (SW) – Kabir Ahmad is among many young men who wished to embark on illegal journey abroad to escape the deadly war and crippling poverty in Afghanistan.

He managed to pass the ‘Kankoor’ university entrance examinations after completing secondary school at the Habibia High School, and got admission in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Kabul University. Kabir went on to study hard for four years, and complete his graduation.

However, the raging war coupled with crippling poverty compelled him to try and seek refuge in Europe.

The young man told Salam Watandar he got in touch with a number of human traffickers to gather necessary information for his perceived journey to Europe.

According to him, the traffickers showed him rosy dreams of absolutely hassle-free journey to Germany via Iran and Turkey against the payment of $ 10,000. Though, Kabir’s family members were not in favor of this idea, but he kept insisting.

However, upon listening to Salam Watandar’s series on the horrific tales of thorny journeys of illegal migration, he changed his mind. Kabir heard the tale of a young man like him named Sidiqullah who was lured by the traffickers just like they were planning to trap him.

The young graduate said upon listening to the ordeal of Siddiqullah on SW, he decided against embarking on this treacherous journey for unknown destination.

He is now employed at a pharmacy store in Kabul where he also guides other young men like him against the threats posed by human trafficking and trafficking of migrants.
