LASHKARGAH (SW): In the ongoing military operation Rage of Maiwand, the Taliban have been pushed back from the second police district of Lashkargah in Helmand and at least 23 militants have been killed.
Mir Hamza Khidmatgar, deputy director for the National Directorate for Security (NDS) in Helmand is supervising this operation. He told Salam Watandar that those areas in the PD2 overrun by the Taliban two weeks ago have been reclaimed. He added that heavy casualties have been inflicted upon the rebels. Khidmatgar confirmed that 23 rebels have been killed and 20 more wounded.
Seperately, Guli Khan, director for security at the Helmand police directorate, has said that to ensure security more check posts would be established here.
The local population however, is wary about the situation. Mohammad Basheer, a local in this area, said that hundreds of locals have fled their homes but are willing to come only if security is ensured.
