Landmine blast kills six children in Takhar

TAKHAR (SW) – Spokesman for the police headquarters in Takhar has said a roadside blast in a Taliban-controlled area has claimed the lives of at least six school children.

Khalilullah Aseer, said the Taliban had planted an improvised explosive device on a main road that caused the tragedy. Jawad Hijri, spokesman for the provincial governor, has also confirmed it.

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said in a report last month that the past six months were the deadliest months for civilians in Afghanistan with 6,487 civilians, including women and children, were killed and injured (1,611 killed and 4876 injured) during the armed conflict.
