KHOST CITY (SW) – A roadside landmine blast has killed police chief of Khost province along with his three guards, an official confirmed on Friday.
The interior ministry said in a statement that Syed Ahmad Babazay was martyred in a roadside landmine blast along with three guards as they were on their way to an anti-terrorism operation in the Nadur Shah Kot district.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Officials said the Taliban insurgents have been active in Nader Shah district for some time now.
The interior ministry on Saturday claimed over 1000 civilians got killed and wounded in attacks by Taliban in a little over two months.
Tariq Aryan, the interior ministry spokesman, told a press conference here that in past 70 days the Taliban killed 387 civilians while wounding 590 and abducting 200 others. "In response to these attacks, the Afghan forces while maintaining the posture of defensive offence killed around 1400 Taliban", he added.
