PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Provincial council members in Logar have said public land encroachment has doubled in province in the past six months.
In a press conference on Sunday, the PC members blamed the government for failure in curbing the land grabbing, and reclaiming the encroached land. Mohammad Nasir Ghairat, chairman of the provincial council, said up to 3121 jerbis of public land in the Mohammad Agha district, and 11 residential plots in the provincial capital Pul-i-Alam have been encroached upon by the land mafia.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Jan Abed, director for the anti-crimes unit at the provincial police headquarters, has said up to 36 culprits involved in land-grabbing have been arrested in the past one month. The office of the provincial government has said in this regard that up to 4 thousand jeribs of land has been reclaimed, and documents of 1500 jeribs of public property have been referred to the judicial organ for processing.
Official documents suggest up to 1900 land-grabbers have encroached upon up to 100, 000 jeribs of public property in the province.
