Land grabbers grasp cemetery in Mazar-i-Sharif

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW): Some residents in Dasht-i-Shor area of Mazar-i-Sharif complained that powerful men have grabbed parts of a cemetery in Dasht-i-Shor and have taken out corps from the graveyard.

Omid, a resident of Dasht-i-Shor in Mazar-i-Sharif, told Salam Watandar that powerful people have grabbed parts of the cemetery for personal use. According to him, the grabbed area has been a graveyard for a long time.

Sakina, another resident of the area, stated that construction work is ongoing on the land. She urged provincial administration authorities to prevent land grabbing.

The provincial directorate of justice authorities confirmed that around 2 hundred acres of land have been grabbed in the province, but the directorate is not able to retake them.

Sayed Jafar Misbah, the provincial director of justice, confirming the recent issue of land grabbing in Balkh province said the lands are government property which was allocated for the cemetery. “A delegation was sent to retake the lands from the land grabbers, but the effort was futile”, informed Misbah.

Salam Watandar wished to speak with those who have grabbed the lands, but to no avail.

Munir Ahmad Farhad, the provincial governor’s spokesman, assured that a committee is formed from different institutions to retake the grabbed lands.

Around 2 hundred acres of government land has been grabbed by powerful people, but the provincial administration has only retaken a hundred acres of the land.
