BAGHLAN (SW) – Mohammad Safdar Mohseni, head of the provincial council in Baghlan, has said lack of coordination among security forces and local administration failed the clearance operation here

He said that the special forces of the army, in collaboration with foreign troops, launched a campaign four days ago to clear the Dand-e-Ghori region of the Taliban, but on Thursday they left the areas for unknown reasons, allowing the rebels to return.

The head of the provincial council, said lack of coordination between the special forces and local authorities in the province, has led to an outbreak of war and a ‘strange retreat’. According to Mohseni, the provincial administration, the police, army and him, were unaware of the operation and the result of the use of money and fuel and bullets and endangering the lives of the security forces and citizens has been reoccupation of dozens of villages by the Taliban.

A source in the special forces, who wsihed not to be named, said that the purpose of their operation was to destroy the centers of the Taliban and inflict losses on them, but local authorities in Baghlan did not have the ability to maintain these areas after clearing operation.

However, Erakamaddin Sareh, Baghlan police chief, said they were involved in the operation, and no orders were given to them by the government to keep the areas under control.

Shamsulhaq Barakzai, deputy chairman of the provincial council, called the operation unsuccessful, saying that the civilian sustained heavy losses. According to him, many people left their homes when the operation was launched, and now many homes are damaged and hundreds of people displaced.

According to security officials, the rebels have bastions in Jo-e-Nau and Ahmadzai area in Pul-i-Khumri from where they are controlling their operations in the northern parts of the country.
