31/10/2018

KABUL (SW) – The Breast Cancer Awareness Month was marked here in an official ceremony organized by the Afghanistan Cancer Foundation.

Nasrin Oryakhail, chairperson of the ACF, told the moot the breast cancer is spreading fast in Afghanistan due to lack of awareness. She said breast cancer can claim lives, but it is possible to cure it.

She said women and girls should closely monitor their state after menstruation, and if they feel something unusual in their breasts, they should consult doctor. She added women and girls should try to stay fit and avoid alcohols and cigarettes.

The ACF was established three years ago, and now has up to 6000 members who are busy spreading awareness about it. Chairperson of this foundation urged the government and the aid agencies to help spread awareness and combat cancer in Afghanistan.

Shenkai Karokhel, member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) told the session that many victims suffering from breast cancer keep it as a secret out of shame, which has aggravated the situation.

Participants of the moot lamented that the two available breast cancer treatment facilities in Afghanistan are not enough in the wake of the alarming spread of the disease.
