KUNDUZ CITY (SW) – A number of religious leaders in Kunduz province have urged the locals not to vote for female candidates in the forthcoming Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections.
Marzia Rustami, a female candidate, has urged the Independent Election Commission, Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission and the Directorate of Hajj and Religious Affair to resolve the issue, otherwise demonstrations would be staged against such a discrimination.
Said Hafizullah Fetrat, provincial head for AIHRC, has also called on the officials to prevent such a propaganda against female candidates.
However, Reshad Ershad, head of the directorate of Haj and Religious Affairs, has stressed provoking people against such a national process would not be allowed.
