KUNDUZ CITY(SW): It has been a week since Kunduz City has fully been cleared of the militants but it still bears the scars of the deadly clashes that took place here, leaving traumatic memories behind.
Kunduz’s residents are still not sure about the security situation and have very little hope for stability in the country.
Although, many people have got back to their regular routine but there is a sense of fear everywhere.
The main square in the city that witnessed intense fighting between the security forces and the militants has now turned into a symbol of destruction with damaged shops on the both sides.
Ahmad Wali, a shopkeeper whose shop was destroyed told Salam Watandar that as fighting flared up people left their houses and properties and fled to neighboring provinces to escape the death.
He said that there is nothing left in many shops except the rubbles.
Abdul Haq Tanai one of the residents in the city said that the fighting not only took the lives of many people but it also inflicted financial toll.
He said that the Kunduz people expect the government to ensure security and rebuild the city.
Kunduz residents are still concerned about the Taliban’s return. Many residents want the government to clear the remote areas in the province from the militants.
Currently, security forces are stationed in each and every square in the province.
The displaced families have started to return to their houses. They are hopeful that everything would return to normal again.
Mohammad Qasim Jangal Bagh, Kunduz Police Chief, said that the security situation has improved. He asked all the displaced families to return to their houses.
Despite the fact that the city has been cleared of the Taliban, many public offices have still not started functioning.
