TALEQAN (SW): Officials in the northern province of Takhar stated on Tuesday that thousands of families who were displaced in the wake of assaults on Kunduz would return to their houses during the next 72 hours.
The officials asserted that there are an estimated 3000 internally displaced families currently placed in Dasht-i-Robat camp, 20 km away from the province capital Taleqan. They said that the IDPs can no longer stay in the camp as the weather is getting colder and the environment polluted.
Yasin Ziya, the governor for Takhar province stated that each returning family is provided with AFN 1,4000 cash and charge-free transportation.
This comes while numbers of returning families express their deep concerns over insecurity in the province. These families say that the Taliban still have control on the villages situated close the city.
Abdul Hakim Adeeb, an IDP from Kunduz, remarked that he is not certain about the security situation. He added that the Taliban are still potential threat to Kunduz and the city may again fall to them.
The returnees say that they are not granted with assurance on the local officials and the situation in Kunduz is yet too fragile.
In the last two years, the northern province of Kunduz has fallen twice to the Taliban militants. Following the falls of the city, dozens of Kunduz residents have lost their lives and thousands more have been displaced in the neighboring provinces.
