23/04/2017

KUNDUZ CITY (SW): A number of residents in Kunduz province have blamed the governor Asadullah Umarkhel for grabbing two plots of land in a residential township.

The residents have told Salam Watandar that the loyalist of the governor, which allegedly include the mayor of Kunduz city, have warned them against agitations over this issue. The complaining citizens have said construction work is underway on these two plots of land.

Ahmad Shah Arabzada, head of the lawyers’ union in Kunduz, said the governor has asked for the expenses invested in the plots so far, and only then has promised to return the land. The locals have also complained that they have been threatened against speaking to the media.

Meanwhile the provincial government has rejected the allegations. Syed Mehmood Danish, spokesman for the governor, said as per rule it was communicated to the buyers of land in this township that if they failed to construct or develop it, the land would be reclaimed by the government.

Najibullah Umerkhail, mayor of the Kunduz city, has also rejected the allegations about intimidating the locals against speaking to media. He vowed no one would be allowed to grab land in the province.
