ASAD ABAD (SW): Locals in Kunar province on Tuesday criticized the Afghan government and its international backers for being mum in the wake of shelling by Pakistan.
A large number of Kunar residents, mostly those displaced by shelling, took part in a protest demonstration in the provincial capital Asad Abad. Ibadullah, a 14-year-old internally displaced person from Kunar’s Shiltan district, said on the occasion that the rampant shelling forced many families to leave their homes in this harsh winter. He said the shelling has destroyed his whole village, leaving no possibility for residing there.
Participants of the gathering criticized Pakistan and the international community alike for not taking this matter seriously. They pronounced the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the U.S. as ‘ineffective’ in terms of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Afghanistan.
Kunar residents also condemned Pakistan for erecting barbed wire on the Durand Line.
Meanwhile, Waheedullah Kaleemzay, governor of the province, told Salam Watandar the Afghan security forces have responded to the shelling by Pakistani forces.
