KABUL (SW): The Kabul Municipality plans to streamline garbage collection with trained staff and dedicated bins.

Ahmad Behzad Ghayasi, head of sanitation affairs at the KM, informed Salam Watandar the aim of this initiative is to reduce garbage generation and ensure proper disposal. He informed initially, 30 KM workers have been trained for this project, and the awareness program has commenced in the Macroryan area of the city.

In the second stage, awareness stickers would be given away for kitchens while thirdly separate bins for different sort of waste would be provided. Ghayasi acknowledged reforming this whole process would take some time.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of Macroryan residents said not much has been done by the KM after initial awareness program. The KM officials, however, stress there are a number of impediments including lack of awareness towards the urban culture that are hindering swift implementation of this project.
