TALUQAN (SW): The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) reclaimed the Khwaja Ghar district in northern Takhar province after it briefly fell to the Taliban in the wee hours of Monday.
About 3 am on Monday, the Taliban made an assault and took the control of the district centre but it only lasted for an hour. Salam Watandar’s provincial correspondent reported from the front line that the Taliban have been pushed back. He stated that the clashes between the ANSF and the Taliban were still underway at a distance of some 7 kilometers from the district capital.
The local officials have said that at least 6 attacking Taliban militants have been killed while three security personnel have been confirmed dead.
The residents of the district told SW that the Taliban looted the shops and persecuted the locals during their brief stay. Many residents of the district have fled their homes fearing a return of the rebels.
