KHOST CITY (SW): Civil society activists in south eastern Khost province have called for the need to end discrimination against women.
In a gathering on Wednesday, the local activists noted that women remains deprived and ignored at home and in public offices. Khosti activists stressed that such behavior needs to be eradicated from the society for good. They vowed to do their best to stop this menace.
At this workshop, the activists said that the biased behavior towards women has created restrictions and challenges for the women to make progress in the society.
Nadia Bawari, one of the female activists, said on the occasion that women are faced with multiple restrictions in regard to health, education and in other areas. She regretted that women have always been deprived of leadership and management responsibilities.
Kamila Akbari, another female activist, highlighted that women make-up half of the population in the society and they have the right to work shoulder to shoulder with men. “But they are always underestimated by men”, she said.
She also emphasized that if a man has the right to choose his spouse, the same right should be acknowledged for women.
Bari Salam, who was responsible for holding the workshop, told Salam Watandar that the purpose of holding such gatherings was to raise awareness about gender rights. This 3-day workshop was facilitated by the United Nations.
