KHOST CITY (SW) – A resident of a remote Khost district has donated his private property worth AFN six million for girls’ school.
The man, Sherpau, is resident of the Marmanday village in remote Garbazo district. He was deprived of education in his childhood, but he wants all children, especially girls, to get education.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, Sherpau said many residents of his village want the girls to get educated, but lack of a proper school was a major obstacle. The man said he donated his one jerib land worth millions for this school in a bid to encourage others as well. He added Afghanistan desperately needs more attention and resources for education.
Sherpau’s generous move has been hailed by many, including Zainab Afghan, head of the Mili Arman civil society, and his neighbor, Sulaiman Zwanday. They urged the Ministry of Education to help build school on the property donated by Sherpau.
A school in this village can help educate up to 1000 girls, the local hoped.
Naseer Ahmad Roshan, head of the directorate of education, had said a while ago, lack of property in Khost has hindered development of schools. According to him, the directorate plans to build 63 new schools in the district. He has promised to include the Marmanday girls’ schools among the list of proposed new schools in the province.
Despite security concerns and cultural impediments, there are some 15,000 girls enrolled in schools in Khost.
