Khost gets state of the art cricket stadium

KHOST CITY (SW): With the help of German Embassy, the construction work on Khost International Cricket Stadium has concluded here.

The stadium, built in line with the International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, and having capacity of some 10, 000 spectators saw first match played between the Kabul Green and Amy Zone team. This match is part of the ongoing Ahmad Baba Shah Abdali four-day Cricket Tournament.

The newly built stadium is set to be officially inaugurated by the Afghanistan Cricket Council (ACB) soon. According to the ACB, the project has been completed with expenses of 595, 000 Euros funded by the German Embassy in Kabul. The newly built stadium also has an academy for young and emerging talent.   

The ACB Chairman Nasimullah Danish has said that efforts are underway to bring international cricket to the country. “We are very thankful to the implementing partners Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan Regional Integration Program (PATIRP) Foundation and Organization for Relief (ORD) for cricket facility in Khost”, said ACB CEO Shafiq Stanikzai.

Along with a non-government facility, this is the second cricket stadium becoming functional in Khost province. Azizullah Fazli, Vice Chairman of the ACB told Salam Watandar that work is underway on five more stadiums across the country.
