MONITORING (SW) – Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has met the British and Pakistani ambassadors to Washington for discussion on the peace process.
In a tweet, Khalilzad noted he met Ambassador of Pakistan, Asad M. Khan, and the British Ambassador Sir. Kim Darroch in Washington. “Met with Pakistani and British Ambassadors to Washington. Whether your perspective is regional or international, everyone benefits from the security and economic dividends an end to war in Afghanistan will bring”, he tweeted.
The Ambassador of Pakistan has replied with a similar upbeat tweet. “Delighted to meet Amb Khalilzad @US4AfghanPeace. We discussed the Afghan peace process. I assured Amb. Khalilzad of Pakistan’s support for the success of his efforts”.
This comes as a senior U.S. diplomat has told Afghanistan's president, Ashraf Ghani, that U.S. officials will no longer deal with his national security adviser, Reuters news agency reported, citing four knowledgeable U.S. and Afghan sources.
Khalilzad finished a fifth round of talks with the Taliban in Qatar earlier this month.
