KABUL (SW) – The top U.S. peace envoy continued his engagements with the Afghan officials and politicians on peace process and elections.
Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has so far met President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, vice president Abdul Rasheed Dostum, former president Hamid Karzai, leader of the Hezb-e-Islami party, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and others.
Speaking to Salam Watandar, the Junbish party spokesman, Basheer Ahmad Tayanej, said the U.S. envoy discussed reduction in violence week as well as the election crisis with Abdul Rasheed Dostum.
There are reports Khalilzad has urged the politicians to overcome differences, and resolve election as well as peace related issues.
In the meantime, the Hezb-e-Islami party spokesman, Fazal Ghani Haqmal, has said Hekmatyar told Khalilzad that parallel government is not acceptable, and instead fresh polls should be held under new administration.
This comes as Abdullah plans to hold self-styled oath taking ceremony before Ghani is sworn in for the second term.
The presidential palace said in a statement on Monday that President Ghani held a meeting with Karzai and former Jihadi figure, Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayaf, to discuss ongoing situation in the country.
