MONITORING (SW) – The top U.S. peace envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad has briefed NATO Allies about ongoing talks with the Taliban.
In a video statement, Nicholas Kay, NATO Senior Civilian Representative for Afghanistan, said he also attended this meeting with the Resolute Support Mission commander, Gen. Scot Miller and U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad in Brussels.
“Ambassador Khalilzad updated NATO Allies on his efforts to reach a peace deal with the Taliban, and the NATO Allies repeated again their support for his efforts, and also their continuing support for the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan”, he said.
Meanwhile, Najia Anwari, spokesperson for the State Ministry of Peace Affairs, has hailed all efforts for peace in Afghanistan by the country’s friends and partners. In a statement, she expressed hope these efforts would help bring lasting peace.
There are reports Ambassador Khalilzad would also visit Afghanistan and Pakistan in connection with his engagements with the Taliban.
