KABUL (SW) – Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has said the Afghan peace process is not an easy path.
He said this following his first meeting with the Ambassador of Afghanistan to the U.S. Roya Rahmani.
“Had my first meeting w/ #Afghanistan's Ambassador to US @RoyaRahmani. We had a substantive discussion & talked next steps in the #AfghanPeaceProcess. It is neither an easy nor straight path we are walking. To stay on track it’s of utmost importance we continue to walk it together”, he tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Russian Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, has stressed Washington should share details of meetings with the Taliban in Doha earlier this month. Kabulov is set to meet Khalilzad during his trip to Washington later this month.
A day earlier, Khalilzad met the British and Pakistani ambassadors to Washington for discussion on the peace process.
In a tweet, Khalilzad noted he met Ambassador of Pakistan, Asad M. Khan, and the British Ambassador Sir. Kim Darroch in Washington. “Met with Pakistani and British Ambassadors to Washington. Whether your perspective is regional or international, everyone benefits from the security and economic dividends an end to war in Afghanistan will bring”, he tweeted.
Khalilzad finished a fifth round of talks with the Taliban in Qatar earlier this month.
