KABUL (SW) – Former president Hamid Karzai has warned the country is sliding toward a crisis.
Addressing a presser, Karzai urged President Ashraf Ghani to take note and care of this situation. Pointing towards the instances of target killings, Karzai said supporters of the peace process are facing intimidations and attacks.
He also urged the security forces to remain loyal to national interests, and do not engage in politically motivated actions. He also dubbed the delay in announcement of the presidential poll results as worrisome, and called for swift solution of the impasse.
Separately, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah told a visiting delegation of U.S. Congress members that the future of Afghanistan is linked to the elections. In a statement issued by Abdullah’s office, the Independent Election Commission has been urged to formulate and announce the election results based on fair votes.
