KABUL(SW):Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the fourth anniversary of the assassination of former president and former High Peace Council Chief, Burhanuddin Rabbani, Hamid Karzai addressed the youth that foreign countries would not be their safe haven.
Based on some reports, Afghan nationals made up 44 percent of refugees in the world in 2014 alone as the number of refugees mounts with raging conflicts in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq.
The former President asked the youth not to leave the country for realizing their dreams abroad and no to be deceived by the false propaganda regarding Afghanistan’s future.
He also asked religious scholars to encourage youth to stay in the country.
Meanwhile Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf, a Jihadi leader, who was also speaking at the ceremony, said that the widening gap between government and people was the main reason for the youth to leave Afghanistan for foreign countries.
He emphasized that they youth should stay in the country and take an active part in building it.
A number of political experts, however, believe that considering the status quo and government inefficiency, it was not rational to ask the youth to stay in the country.
Faisal Amin, University Professor and Sociologist told Salamwatandar that government’s ineffective performance has forced the citizens to seek refuge abroad.
He said Karzai’s remarks addressed to the youth and urged them to stay were not rational.
He added that the former president, other leaders, and tribal elders should exert pressure on the current leaders of the national unity government not to endanger the gains made over the past decade.
Insecurity, poverty, and growing unemployment have forced the citizens to pour illegally into European countries, since the establishment of the national unity government.
