KABUL (SW): Former president Hamid Karzai witnessed slogans chanted against him in his presence during the death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani on Friday.
In an interview with the BBC earlier this month, Hamid Karzai condemned aerial raids against the Taliban, and pronounced Taliban as brethren. That has led to harsh criticism towards him on various platforms. On Friday, during the death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani, a man stood from his chair in the hall and repeatedly chanted: “Death to Karzai!”
In his response, the former president appreciated the man for speaking his heart out. Karzai charged the U.S. for dividing the Afghans.
Atta Mohammad Noor, acting governor of Balkh province condemned the man for ‘disrespecting’ Karzai. Noor, chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami party said he and his party have a great deal of respect for Karzai. Foreign Minister Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, president of the Jamiat-e-Islami party also renounced the man for his remarks.
