KABUL (SW): Abbas Karimi, a U.S-based Afghan special athlete, has won gold in the 50-meter World Para Swimming Series competitions.
As per the organizers, the three-day competitions would conclude in the Indianapolis on Saturday. He defeated his closest rivals from China and Mexico to earn the gold.
The general directorate of physical education and sports has hailed this achievement of Abbas, and has facilitated the whole nation on this occasion.
The World Para Swimming Series competitions featured some 198 athletes from 17 countries while Abbas was granted access to play as an individual. The Afghan special swimmer is set to feature in two more competitions on the final day.
Born without both arms, Abbas first captured the limelight when he won a gold medal in 2013 in Turkey. This was followed by another one in the U.S. in 2017. He is a full member of the Afghanistan’s national team of para simmers for the past five years.
