KANDAHAR CITY (SW): The Kandahar Information and Culture Department has expressed resolve to develop a state of the art museum and library in the provincial capital Kandahar City.
This was announced by the Hazrat Wali, the provincial director for information and culture here on Saturday. He noted that the museum and library would be developed at the Aino Mina (Town of Mirrors).
The project would cost up to $ 2.5 million and would be funded by the Ministry of Information and Culture, and a private organization. Wali added that regional branches of the library would also be developed across the province. “All the aspects for a state of the art library are taken into consideration, this is going to be an exemplary one”, he said.
At the moment, there is a building serving as a museum, he said adding that it is not good enough. Calling it as a healthy development, the literary and academic figures in Kandahar have welcomed the new move.
They expressed optimism that the new library and museum would help promote the culture of reading, promoting and preserving the national culture.
