KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Thousands of residents including religious and tribal elders from the southern parts of the country gathered here on Saturday to back the newly announced U.S. strategy for Afghanistan while urging Washington to deliver on the promises made with Kabul.
The speakers stressed on the occasion that it has been highlighted on numerous occasions in the past many years that Pakistan continues to train and harbor terrorists. They urged upon the U.S. to stand firm on its stand in this regard against Pakistan.
Mohammad Dawood Gulzar, advisor to the president, told the gathering that there are a number of terrorist groups active in Pakistan including the Haqqani Network. He called for the need to blacklist these groups on international level.
Hameedzay Lalay, member of the parliament, said on the occasion that countries like China should stop backing ‘terrorist state’ of Pakistan. He pronounced Pakistan’s spy agency ‘killer’ of the Afghans and U.S. forces. Lalay also urged upon the Islamic world to cut ties with Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Atta Jan Haqbayan, member of the Zabul provincial council, noted that the U.S. forces should conduct air raids in Pakistan to eliminate terrorists’ sanctuaries and expose Pakistan’s duplicity. He also urged upon the Taliban not to listen to outsiders, and come to join the peace process.
At the end, a nine point declaration was issued that labelled Pakistan as the epicenter of horror and terrorism. It backed the new U.S. strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, and called upon the Taliban to join peace process.
