Kandahar moot grills government for prevailing situation

02/12/2017

KANDAHAR CITY (SW): A number of political figures on Saturday gathered in Kandahar to criticize the government for the prevailing situation in the country.

Anwarul Haq Ahadi, former finance minister, said on the occasion that the state is faced with crisis, insecurity is prevalent and war has spread in the past three years. He charged that the government has no plan for peace in the country, and ragging war is a serious threat. Ahadi added that unemployment is on the rise leading to people’s discontent.

Addressing the gathering, Rehmatullah Nabil, former director for the National Directorate of Security, said such gatherings alone can take the country away from the current political and economic crisis. He blamed the government for promoting hatred among different ethnicities by denying all citizens equal rights and opportunities.

Meanwhile, Dawa Khan Meenapal, deputy spokesman for the President, has rejected these allegations. He told Salam Watandar the government has always strived for unity.

It was planned that a number of other politicians including governor of Balkh Atta Mohammad Noor would also attend the gathering in Kandahar, but a plane that was supposed to carry Noor from Balkh to Kandahar was not allowed to takeoff. A number of other speakers at the Kandahar moot also grilled the government.

Meanwhile, a number of Kandahar residents have stressed the politicians should propose plans for improvement rather than exchanging allegations.
