KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Officials at the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) said that this year as much as 5,732 tons of grapes worth of $ 1.2 million have been exported to Pakistan.
Abdul Baqi Bita, the deputy for the KCCI told Salam Watandar that the amount of exports could have been two times bigger if Pakistani authorities had not closed Spin Boldak border point. He said that for the time being, Kandahar’s grapes are exported to Pakistan alone, but they are trying to ease ways for exporting it to other countries as well.
Haji Nanai, the head for union of fruit sellers in Kandahar, said in this regard that the traders would benefit more if the government eases ways for export.
The officials at the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Industries stated that efforts to export Afghanistan’s fruits by air to various parts of the world are underway since 2008, but so far they have not been able to get desireable results.
