Kabulis facing water shortage

07/11/2016

KABUL (SW): With an estimated 6 million population, Kabul is a densely populated capital that has been facing several issues including water shortage.

A large number of the city's population is living in the houses that are located in areas on high altitude like Kart-e-Sakhi, Chihlsotoon and Bagh-e-Bala. Those Kabulis who dwell in these areas complained that they are faced with extreme water shortages. They said that most private water supply companies provide them with unsafe drinking water.

They noted that the government has facilitated them with only one water connection pipe that is situated very far from their houses. These Kabul residents added that they wait for hours to bring water on daily basis.

Speaking to Salam Watandar, a Kart-e-Sakhi dweller said that the government has provided them with only one water connection pipe. He went on to say that they are faced with extreme water shortage. He noted that the residents of Kart-e-Sakhi spend several hours standing in queues to fetch water.

In the meantime, Hamidullah, the general director for Kabul Canalization and Water Supply Department (KCWSD) stated that these people have occupied the hills illegally and have constructed houses in the areas that are not included in city master plan.

The officials however, promised that they are trying to find out a solution to it.
