KABUL (SW): Group of religious scholars in Kabul have urged the government to replace the current leaders of the Afghanistan Ulema Council (AUC) with young and educated ones.
In a press conference, Abdul Basir Haqqani, chief of the Kabul Ulema Council said the Taliban’s brazen attack on the 209-Shaheen Corps has undermined all human and Islamic values. He blamed the AUC leadership for failing to condemn this attack, or raise strong voice against the terrorists.
Mohammad Salim Mohseni, another member of the council, said regional spy agencies are luring people into fight for ‘Jehad’ in Afghanistan while as in reality there is no legitimate call or ground for Jehad in Afghanistan. Mohseni stressed the Constitution in Afghanistan is based on Islamic teachings hence armed insurgency is illegitimate.
The Kabul Ulema Council lamented that the Afghanistan Ulema Council has failed to pave public opinion, and create awareness in this regard despite having a hefty budget.
Meanwhile the AUC has made its stance on this issue clear. Mohammad Qasim Halimi, spokesman for the council told Salam Watandar that it is the obligatory duty of all Muslims to speak and act against the incidents such as the one that took place in Balkh. He added things cannot improve overnight in the country by bringing changes in the AUC.
