KABUL (SW): Kabul would soon host foreign ministers of China and Pakistan in a bid to revive the stalled peace process in Afghanistan.
Dawa Khan Menapal, deputy presidential spokesman, told Salam Watandar the date for next session of the Quadrilateral Cooperation Group (QCG) meeting would be set following the arrival of Pakistani delegation. He added the QCG aims to revive and expedite work on the agreed frame work against terrorism. He said Pakistan has pledged to bring those groups opposing peace to join the negotiation table.
The High Peace Council (HPC) has also expressed readiness to host the visiting dignitaries. Ismael Qasimyar, adviser at HPC for international affairs, said in this regard that the next session in Kabul can only yield positive results if Pakistan is willing to honestly cooperate for peace in Afghanistan.
Analysts are optimistic that the growing pressure on Pakistan would force Islamabad to take meaningful practical steps for peace in Afghanistan. Mohammad Hassan, an analyst, told Salam Watandar that the influence of Pakistan over the Taliban has decreased following the Taliban’s increased contacts with other regional countries. He downgraded Pakistan’s role in this regard.
The Chinese ambassador in Kabul said on Monday Beijing is ready to play its role for peace in Afghanistan. Last week, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held one-on-one meetings with the President of China as well as the Prime Minister of Pakistan in which efforts for peace in Afghanistan were discussed.
