KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Saturday that Kabul would host a bilateral meeting of the Afghan and Pakistani security officials later this week.
The meeting is scheduled to deliberate on the matters of counter-terrorism measures and cooperation between the two countries in this regard. This comes on top of rather cold ties between the two countries after the Torkham episode. Shakib Mustaghni, spokesman for the MoFA told Salam Watandar that the heads of operation at the respective ministries of defense from the two countries would head the meeting.
“The meeting would aim to discuss ways and means to improve coordination and cooperation against the mutual threat of terrorism”, he said.
Similar bilateral and trilateral meetings with the representatives of NATO also joining, have failed to bring out concrete results in the past. But, analysts believe situation has now changed. Kabul Khan Tadbir, an analyst said in this regard that Pakistan is under immense international pressure over its policy of differentiate between the ‘good and bad’ terrorists. “This meeting would have a positive result if Pakistan decides to come out of isolation in the international community and act against the terrorists on its soil”, he said.
