Kabul police nabs 9 for carrying arms during Massoud’s anniversary

KABUL (SW): The Capital City Police Chief said on Saturday 569 accused men including 9 charged with carrying arms on the 15th death anniversary of Ahmad Shah Massoud have been nabbed in the past 30 days.

A number of motor convoys were seen in the capital city during Masoud’s anniversary with men publically flashing automatic rifles.

Abdul Rahman Rahimi, Kabul Police Chief told journalists that the arrests have been made on 295 counts of charges in the past month. According to him, the arrested people have committed crimes like murdering, kidnapping, theft, smuggling and planning to carry suicide attacks.

The Police Chief said the arrested people would soon be handed over to judiciary. He claimed that the police have also confiscated huge cache of arms and narcotics. “We have arrested 40 murderers, a group of kidnappers, 123 thieves, 16 car lifters and 9 others who were accused of illegally carrying arms”, he said.

Rahimi said Kabul Police was working on a comprehensive security plan in coordination with the other security organs to ensure maximum security in the capital. “Police is considering to work closely with NDS and other security organs to jointly develop specific programs to improve security in Kabul”, he said.
