Kabul Municipality takes charge of traffic services

KABUL (SW): The Interior Ministry and Kabul Municipality signed an agreement that allowed the Kabul Municipality to take over the management of the traffic services in Kabul city.

Wais Ahmad Barmak, the Interior Minister, today (Monday) in a meeting in Kabul, said the transfer of Kabul city traffic management services to the municipality is a crucial step in solving the urban traffic problems.

According to the Interior Minister, the responsibility of Kabul’s traffic management would remain the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior and only the management of its service affairs will be transferred to the Kabul Municipality.

Abdullah Habibzai, head of Kabul Municipality, said the aim of this contract was the coordination between the Kabul Municipality and the Interior Ministry, saying that by implementation of this contract the traffic congestion and other urban issues will be reduced.

The Kabul Municipality officials said that they have prepared a plan to regulate the traffic in Kabul, including the installation of signals, the distribution of electric driving licenses, awareness of traffic rules and laws, driving license issuance through the “easy-to-serve” process, construction of by-pass bridges, and parking lots, which with its implementation, urban services will get better.

 The plan to transfer the responsibility of management of the traffic services to Kabul Municipality was finalized at the third meeting of the urban development and was officially signed today.
