Kabul littered with filth after Eid

18/09/2016

KABUL (SW): Days after the Eid-ul-Adha, many parts of the capital Kabul remain littered with the remains of sacrificial animals and other filth.

Cattle traders that brought sacrificial animals for sale from various parts of the country have left many main roads dirty with animals’ waste, grass and other rubbish, and the municipality has failed to clean it. Kabul residents are irked by the stinky smell and dirty roads these days.

Helmand Khan, a resident of the fourth provincial district in Kabul told Salam Watandar that piles of filth are lying in every corner of the district, and the smell is irritating people even inside their homes. Lewar Khan, another Kabul resident said in this regard that hoards of stray dogs are roaming around in the residential areas due to all the bones and other leftovers of the sacrificial animals.

Meanwhile, Eng. Tawab Ahmadi, director for sanitation at the Kabul Municipality noted that efforts are underway to address this issue. “We are working hard day and night to clean the city, and we assure the citizens that the city would be cleansed soon”, he promised .

It is estimated that over one million sacrificial animals were slaughtered in the capital on this Eid-ul-Adha.
