Kabul – Istanbul aerial corridor on the cards

KABUL (SW): Kabul and Istanbul are set to establish aerial trade corridor this week, the presidential palace announced on Saturday.

Sameer Rasa, head of public relations at the Administrative Office of the President, told a press conference the agreement in this regard would be inked in two days among Presidential Advisor on Financial and Banking Affairs, Kam Air and Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI). He said the first consignment would see export of 15 tons of dried fruit, carpets, herbal medicine and precious stones to Turkey.

He said the agreement for this trade corridor was reached last month during a trip to Kabul by a top Turkish delegation.

Sameer Rasa further said a similar aerial corridor would also be established with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia next week. He said this would see export of five tons of saffron and dried fruit to the KSA. He said following the establishment of aerial corridor with India, Afghanistan has managed to establish similar corridors with Uzbekistan, the KSA, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

It is worth noticing, Afghanistan has so far exported up to 2500 tons of dried fruit, herbal medicine and other products via Kabul – New Delhi, Kabul – Mumbai, and Kabul – Almaty.
