KABUL (SW): Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) organized its first session for investment assessment in Afghanistan in Kabul on Tuesday.

Mohammad Qurban Haqjo, Head of AISA, said that the purpose behind holding the session was to assess the opportunities and challenges, which the businessmen are faced with and find a solution to solve them.

He said that at this session, they would develop a new approach in cooperation with businessmen in Afghanistan. He added that it would be a 4-year approach, which would be implemented within four years.

Nothing has changed

Khan Jan Alkozay, Deputy President for Afghanistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), who was also at the session, said that despite 14 years of new political system in Afghanistan, the businessmen still grapple with many challenges. He said that despite the constant complains made by private sector about the businessmen’s challenges, nothing has been done to respond to those issues.

He called insecurity, lack of infrastructures and corruption as the biggest challenges faced by the businessmen.

He urged the government to prioritize and channel the contracts to only those businessmen who stay in the country despite worsening security situation.

Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer, said on the occasion that lack of security was a challenge and unfortunately corruption has become pervasive in Afghanistan.

He said that the government is planning to take serious measures to solve these challenges. He added that the government is not inconsiderate of the challenges faced by the businessmen and would not deal with them perfunctorily.

He further said that the government has always encouraged the private sector and businessmen and would continue do to so in the future.
